Apprenticeship application tips

  • Double-check that your personal details, such as your home address, are correct.
  • Keep your business and private life separate by creating an email address specifically for apprenticeships. To an employer discofever666@gmail.com does not sound as dependable as emma.jenkins1994@gmail.com.
  • You won't be able to pick up all your phone calls, so remember to update your answer-phone message to ensure it sounds businesslike.
  • As well as teachers, career advisors and friends it's also useful to speak to other apprentices. More details are available on www.horsesmouth.co.uk.
  • List all your qualifications, and include your predicted grades with confidence.
  • Wherever possible, provide working examples to back up your experience.
  • Make sure you can travel to the job – often apprenticeships are on sites out of town.
  • Apply for more than one job – always keep your options open.

How to apply
Visit the National Apprenticeship Service website www.apprenticeships.org.uk to register your detail and search for apprenticeship opportunities in your area.
