Lancaster University is a campus university dedicated to excellence in teaching and research, for which it is consistently rated among the top UK universities. Its distinctive and flexible degree courses in Engineering are accredited by the relevant professional engineering institutions with the project element of the courses particularly strong. Students gain a well-rounded engineering capability which often enables them to progress rapidly in their first jobs to a wide variety of career paths both nationally and internationally.

Undergraduate Courses
A common first year leads to a choice among a range of accredited three-year BEng and four-year MEng courses:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Computer Systems Engineering
  • Electronic and Electrical Engineering
  • General Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronic Engineering
  • Nuclear Engineering
  • Sustainable Engineering

All are available with a year spent in industry, or with one year of study abroad at a university in the USA, Canada or Australia.

Entry Requirements
For BEng courses, ABB including Maths; for MEng AAB including Maths. We are happy to consider applicants with other qualifications, both from the UK or internationally.

Financial Assistance
All well qualified candidates gaining A*AA or better will receive an annual Academic Scholarship of £1000. Industrial awards are also available.

Industrial Links
There are strong links with local, national and international industry and a proportion of students take the opportunity to spend a year in paid employment between their second and third years. Those studying MEng will complete two short industrial placements as part of their course.

Course Flexibility
The Lancaster courses are flexible and allow students to change their specialism at the end of their first year, or BEng students to transfer to the MEng degree, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The fourth year includes a major team-based project, such as the design and construction of a racing car for the annual Formula Student competition or the design of a novel converter for the energy of sea waves.

Postgraduate Courses
We offer full-time, part-time and industry-based MSc courses in Mechatronic Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Microelectronics and System-On-Chip, Decommissioning and Environmental Clean-up and Safety Engineering. There are research opportunities in Control and Instrumentation, Energy, Micro and Nano Systems, High Power Microwave Engineering and Structures, Design and Manufacturing.
