The Institution is the home for all mechanical engineers in the UK who are dedicated to improving the world through engineering. With a membership of over 97,000 engineers worldwide, IMechE exists to support engineers through their careers to register as Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
The Institution has grown to become a hub of learning, information and professional excellence, covering the entire range of technologies and industries in which engineers work. We want to help you excel in mechanical engineering, and the best place to do that is at IMechE. Our members work in some of the most ground-breaking areas from space, medicine, process, climate change and power to name but a few. Under our key themes of Energy, Environment, Transport and Education we are striving to show how far-reaching a career in engineering can be.
Who Can Join IMechE?
Anyone who is studying or has an interest in mechanical engineering can become an Affiliate member of the Institution. Affiliate membership is free for students.
What Do We Offer?
Educational Scholarships and Awards valued at £420,000 are given each year to assist students embarking on mechanical engineering apprenticeships, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Visit www.imeche.org/awards
Our Young Member panels are open to all Affiliate members. They provide opportunities to volunteer at IMechE events, develop the skills that are needed for a career in engineering, and build excellent professional networks amongst like minded people. Development opportunities are offered through conferences, lectures and seminars that are discounted for members, as well as a website that provides careers advice.

Once you’ve completed your course and have gained the appropriate work experience, IMechE can help you work towards becoming professionally registered as an Engineering Technician, Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer .
