Are you looking for something extra from your life, a rewarding experience outside normal working hours? You will find it with 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group (170 Engr Gp), a hybrid Regular and Territorial Army organisation. As an infrastructure specialist you can apply skills that you already have in a completely different environment. TA members come from almost every social, occupational and cultural background imaginable. They are keen to develop new skills, meet new people and achieve goals they never thought possible.

Employers and the TA
Being an infrastructure specialist will give you a major advantage in the increasingly competitive job market. It shows employers that you are committed, can organise others, work well in a team, are flexible and have an imaginative approach to problem solving.

Use your civilian skills in the TA
170 Engr Gp TA members work alongside their Regular Army counterparts and are recruited from all over the country to use their civilian skills and qualifications in a military context whether they are mechanical, electrical, civil or structural engineers as well as those with engineering related skills such as design draughtsmen, surveyors, quantity surveyors and logisticians.

Leadership and management
During your TA service, if you have the potential, you will attend leadership and management courses to prepare you for promotion; many progress and become officers.

The Territorial Army infrastructure specialists are:

Fuel Infrastructure
The Bulk Petroleum and Fuels teams’ focus is on fuel production, storage and distribution. The aim of the team is to provide the expertise necessary to secure, repair and maintain essential fuel supplies to military and civilian utilities in support of the military mission.

Railways Infrastructure
The Railways team is the only formed unit within the Regular Army or TA with a railway design and construction capability covering all aspects of railway infrastructure.

Ports infrastructure
The role of the Ports team is to provide professional assessment and design consultancy functions for the infrastructure of ports located overseas and in the UK.

Works
The Works teams have the widest range of responsibilities involving all aspects of engineering assessment, design and project management. Their work can involve barrack and field hospital design, supervision of construction of major road and bridge design.
